Our Mission Statement

Radiology Associates of Wausau, founded in 1974, is the premier independent radiology provider in north central Wisconsin. Radiology Associates is physician-led and will continually strive to provide the most courteous, highest quality, and cost-effective diagnostic and therapeutic radiology services possible to our patients and referring physicians. Our services are available through several outpatient imaging sites and at our hospital base (CHC/Wausau Hospital) in the greater Wausau area. Our organization practices strict observation of the pertinent rules and regulations governing the practice of medicine.

Corporate History

Radiology Associates of Wisconsin S.C. was founded May 1, 1974 by Doctors G.H. Brister and Donald M. Nowinski, Sr. The billing office was located in the Ridgewood Building adjacent to St. Mary's Hospital in Wausau.

The doctors provided radiology coverage for Wausau and Antigo. Upon completion of the new Wausau Regional Hospital in May, 1979, the billing office was moved into the Hospital, Suite 303. On April 11th, the office was moved to Suite 209. On December 5th, 1988, the office moved to 2800 Westhill Drive, suite 106 in Wausau. On February 7th, 2004 the office moved to its current location in the 3200 Westhill Building, 3200 Westhill Drive, Suite 210.

Doctors Tom Vachinski, Lee Podell, and Roger Kimmel were members of Radiology Associates for a short time. Radiology coverage was then temporarily extended to Antigo, Medford, Merrill, and Shawano.

• Dr. W.M. Mahony joined the group July 1, 1977 and retired from the practice December 31, 2005.
• Dr. Henry H. Kanemoto joined the group August 10, 1979 and retired from the practice July 1999.
• Dr. Vinay D. Luthra joined the group January 6, 1986.
• Dr. John R. Sorenson joined the group July 1, 1988.
• Dr. Donald M. Nowinski, Jr. joined the group February 5, 1989.
• Dr. Nowinski, Sr. retired from the group December 31, 1989.
• Dr. Christopher J. Kelley joined the group August 23rd, 1989 and retired from the practice on July 12th, 2000.
• Dr. James S. Collison joined the group July 12, 1993.
• Dr. G.H. Brister retired from the group June 30, 1996.
• Dr. Craig A. Hackworth joined the group September 15, 1997.
• Dr. Stephen B. Stine joined the group March 15, 1999.
• Dr. Austin L. Belton joined the group July 1, 2001.
• Dr. Paul E. Rieck joined the group Sepember 30, 2002.
• Dr. Gillian M. Battino joined the group October 1, 2005.

At the present time we have nine full time radiologists and are the largest independent radiology group in north central Wisconsin. Our doctors currently provide coverage for the Aspirus Wausau Hospital along with most of the clinics in the surrounding communities.
